Approximately 30,000 children live in children’s homes in Japan for various reasons.
Many of them use their first pair of chopsticks with care, even if they do not fit or are slightly damaged.
Would you like to bring a smile to these children’s faces through something as familiar as chopsticks?

From February 10, 2017 they will be on sale at NIHONBO branch stores in Tokyo Station GRANSTA, Hiro, and AEON MALL Okayama shop, and the HYOZAEMON online store. Also, we plan to expand over time to dealerships at department stores nationwide.Donations will be made to facilities in Tokyo in cooperation with the Tokyo Metropolitan Social Welfare Council. We will also gradually expand the support area so that smiles can be brought to many more children and customers.
Clothing, food and housing are the basic requirements of daily life.
Of these, we believe that the degree of our happiness and satisfaction changes greatly depending on the ”where", "what", "with whom” and “with what" we eat.
In our daily life, we take it for granted that we buy new chopsticks as we grow up, and as they become old, we buy new ones to eat with.
There are about 600 orphanages nationwide, and about 30,000 children live there for a variety of reasons. Many of them continue to carefully use the first pair of chopsticks they got, even if the size no longer fits or they are a bit damaged.
It is difficult to provide the ”where", "what" and “with whom”, but as a company dealing with chopsticks it is possible to add "new chopsticks" to the “with what".
We think that when we use new chopsticks, even the usual meal tastes delicious, it’s kind of fun, and we get a warm feeling. We can bring a smile to children through these familiar things called "chopsticks". Even the giver can get a bit of a warm feeling when they hold their own "chopsticks". The “HASHINAGAOJISAN” brand was born from the desire to create such a happy system for spreading smiles.
It is a mark with a yellow ribbon added to the uncle of the silhouette of chopsticks.
Yellow has various meanings, but we have a wish to make children smile with a delightful meal.
The “HASHINAGAOJISAN” project, which sends chopsticks to children in orphanages, can carry out its activities by borrowing the energy of everyone.
Our hope is that, by doing these activities, it will be a chance for more people to be interested in the current situation in orphanages and the future of the children living there.
And we would like it to be a step towards becoming the next "ASHINAGAOJISAN”.
For example, while the current rate of students nationwide who advance to universities and vocational schools in Japan is 75% on average, it is only 22% for children in orphanages. At present, since most children are required to leave a facility at the age of 18, they are expected to be independent without having people they can rely on or financial stability.
Another problem is that fostering and adoption are not common. In the United States, 77% of children who need custody are raised under foster parents. In Australia it is 93%, in Britain 71%, and in Japan only 12%.
[Reference: Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare: The Current State of Social Care - “The Situation of Educational Advancement, Employment" “The Percentage in Each Country of Children Requiring Custody who are in Foster Care (situation around 2010)"]
At present, there is not yet enough support for the children who will carry the future on their shoulders.
There is a limit to what we can do as individuals and in groups, but we believe that if we combine many small efforts, it will surely lead to significant improvements.
The ”HASHINAGAOJISAN Project" is a modest activity, but we will be happy if it can become a bond that allows people who are interested to connect with the next step.
After the ”what", we want the "where", “with what", and “with whom“ to be a little better. Also, not only food, but clothes, living environment, people ... and we want the circle of smiles to expand. It may not be much, but we will continue to provide what support we can, so that children throughout Japan can live healthy lives, both mentally and physically.
